Open Educational Resources (OER) Faculty Fellows

OER Faculty Fellows will work closely with the OER Librarian through the fall, spring, and summer to implement OER related faculty development programming and to pursue a project focused on OER. The project will be related to the OER Faculty Fellow’s academic interests and will expand and enhance the use of OER at Berea College.

Qualifications

The faculty members serving in this position will have experience teaching with OER at Berea College, will have participated in Open Berea-sponsored faculty development programming, and will have an interest in developing their own teaching and scholarship related to OER, as well as a desire to support the implementation and enhancement of OER at Berea College.

Scope of Responsibilities

The OER Faculty Fellows will serve in this position from fall through summer. 
Responsibilities associated with the position include:

  •  In collaboration with the OER Librarian, co-develop and co-lead an OER related Learning Community. Faculty will meet 1 hour a week for 7 weeks to expand their knowledge of OER and related tools. The program culminates with an OER implementation plan for a course.
  • Advocate for the adoption, adaptation, and creation of OER at Berea College meetings and events. 
  • Pursue a focused project, designed in conjunction with the OER Librarian. The project will be related to the OER Faculty Fellows’ academic interests and will expand and enhance the use of OER at Berea College. Examples of possible projects could include:
    • Developing and implementing tools to assess student learning when using OER
    • Developing and implementing an OER workshop series for faculty 
    • Developing OER related materials and resources, especially ancillaries, assignments, and other supporting content.
  • Assist the OER Librarian, as needed, in consulting with faculty colleagues about teaching with OER and related scholarship.
  • Participate in other OER related aspects of the Open Berea program, based on the faculty member’s interests and the program’s needs.

Compensation

A stipend of $3000 for OER Faculty Fellows who serve in the position from fall 2025 through the end of June 2026. The Fellows could also receive funding to attend and present at a conference.

Eligibility

Applicants are welcome to submit proposals for OER grants but are ultimately eligible for one of the two awards, either a grant or a fellow position.
