Faculty/staff Borrowers

What do faculty/staff use as a library card?

  • A valid Berea College ID (Faculty/Staff) is required to borrow items.
  • Faculty/staff spouses can apply for a Hutchins Library Card.
  • Cards are non-transferable.

How many books can faculty/staff check out at one time?

Faculty and staff may check out up to 50 items at one time, 5 of which may be media items (CDs, DVDs, LPs).

How long can faculty/staff check out items for?

For faculty and staff, the following loan periods apply: books for 120 days, and media (DVD, VHS, CD) for 7 days.

How much are faculty and staff charged in fines for overdue, lost, or damaged items?

Replacement charges will be assessed for unreturned, lost, and significantly damaged items. If an undamaged item is returned after fees are incurred, fees for that item will be removed or refunded. Replacement costs for Interlibrary Loan materials are determined by the lending library.

How do faculty/staff renew items?

Faculty and staff may renew most items up to 3 times. Items may be renewed online (https://bereacollege.account.worldcat.org/account/checkouts) if the item is not overdue.

Who is my faculty liaison and how do I contact them?

For more information on the Faculty Liaison program and to determine your specific liaison, please refer to the page below:

I am a faculty member. How do I put course items on reserve for my students?

You have a few options. You can:

  • Bring the materials to the circulation desk (if you are furnishing the materials)
  • Bring the list of materials to the circulation desk (if you are reserving materials that we own)
  • Email the list of materials to Sienna Burgess (burgesss@berea.edu)

Please review the Library's COPYRIGHT POLICY for Reserve Materials.

How do I assign proxy status to a student assistant or administrative assistant?

The faculty member or administrator must complete Hutchins Library Faculty Proxy Borrowing Agreement, which is linked to below.

The agreement permits a faculty member or administrator to assign a student assistant or administrative assistant proxy staus. This allows the proxy to check out library material using the faculty member's library account.

Thereafter, the proxy will only need to bring his/her Berea College ID card in order to check out or pick up materials for the faculty member

The expiration date is determined by the faculty member. If the proxy agreement is to be terminated prior to the date listed on the form, the library must be informed by the faculty member so our records can be updated.
