Materials are routinely evaluated and may be withdrawn based on:
Obsolescence, condition, or duplication
Updated editions or superior alternatives available
Low usage
Space concerns; Hutchins Library does not utilize offsite storage for books
Non-binding input from faculty may be sought in the weeding process for their respective subject areas. Library faculty will be responsible for weeding general, non-subject specific areas of the collections.
Hutchins Library collaborates with ACA, AIKCU, FoKAL, KYVL, Lyrasis, and the Oberlin Group to expand digital collections and optimize costs. While some duplicate materials may result, selections prioritize Berea College’s curriculum and mission.
