STAY ON TASK
1. When reporting for work, clock in and proceed immediately to your work area. Hang your coats and place backpacks in the cubby area. Check the board for announcements or new labor assignments.
2. If the time clock is not working, write your time in and time out on the manual time clock sheet. Notify your supervisor when you are having difficulty with the time clock.
3. When reporting for work, please spend no more than a few moments greeting friends before taking up your assigned responsibilities. Friends from outside the department are discouraged from visiting while you are working. Cell phones should be turned off and left in the locker area unless other arrangements have been made with your supervisor.
4. Do not leave the department without notifying a supervisor. If you have reception room duty, never leave the area until you have informed a supervisor and the reception desk is covered.
5. If you work four consecutive hours, you are entitled to a 15 minute break; three consecutive hours earns a 10 minute break. Always arrange your break with a labor supervisor. Breaks should be taken outside the department.
6. No studying, e-mailing, texting, personal web surfing, or personal calls (except in urgent situations) are allowed while you are clocked in or in a work area.
MAINTAIN THE LIBRARY ENVIRONMENT
1. Please be alert to the need for quiet in Special Collections--especially when researchers are present. Talking and laughing, even if done in low tones, can be annoying to other people. We encourage a friendly work environment, but please limit conversation.
2. FOOD AND DRINK ARE NOT PERMITTED IN SPECIAL COLLECTIONS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Do not deposit food containers or wrappers in trash cans in Special Collections. Leave all beverage containers and other personal items in the clock-in area.
3. Music devices may not be used when you are working at the reception desk. You may use one while seated at your workstation in the processing or copy area or in the stacks, but please keep the volume low. Cell phones may be used to listen to music, but if there becomes an issue with texting or taking calls, you will lose that privilege.
4. Please keep your work area neat and orderly; if you are working on a project, take the last few minutes of your shift to put your work neatly aside so that materials are not in the way of others using the same space. Never leave documents and work materials in the Reception Area at the end of your shift.
5. Help us maintain a quiet, productive atmosphere for everyone.
OBSERVE DRESS GUIDELINES
The library's dress guidelines are as follows:
COMMUNICATE WITH SUPERVISORS
If you have any complaints with your assignments or other people, please discuss the matter with your supervisor. He/she will work with you in helping to solve the problem. We try to be sensitive and flexible toward your needs and schedules.
