This tab contains information about how to use the sound and media equipment in the Reading Room. Some of these machines you may be familiar with but others may be foreign. Please take a careful look at each tutorial so you can better assist patrons in the operation of these machines.
The VCRs in the Reading Room work in a similar fashion to DVD players. Simply insert the VHS tape and press play. There are controls on the front panel as well as on a remote. You can pause, stop, rewind, and fast forward. When you are finished viewing the VHS, press Stop and then Eject.
The machine on the top is a Sony DVD/CD player and it works in a similar fashion to any other DVD/CD player. Open the tray and insert the disc, close the tray, and press Play. You can pause, stop, skip tracks, rewind, and fast forward.Should any issues with the machine arise, please refer to the manual.

The machine on the bottom is an HHB Compact Disc Recorder CDR800, which can be used to record sound onto a CD. You can burn tracks from other CDs or cassette tapes by using the other machines in this stack and changing the input on the disc recorder. When inserting a blank disc into this machine, however, you must insert it face up, with the shiny side facing you. The Numark Pro TT-2 plays records (albums on vinyl). Please watch the tutorial below for a demonstration of the turntable in action with useful tips on proper usage and treatment.
