What is microform?

Microforms are any forms, either films or paper, containing microreproductions of documents for transmission, storage, reading, and printing. Microform images are commonly reduced to about one twenty-fifth of the original document size.

Three formats are common: microfilm (reels), aperture cards, and microfiche (flat sheets). At Hutchins, we have both microform and microfiche.

Our microform collection consists mainly of newspapers but may also include other print material or pictures. The microform machines are located in the open study space outside of Technical Services on the 1st floor.
