Circulation Module 6: Library Lending Policies

Faculty and Staff Circulation Policy

A faculty/staff member (or their teaching assistants) must present his or her valid Berea College ID card in order to check out or renew materials from Hutchins Library. Faculty/staff are responsible for all materials checked out on their cards.

Loan Periods
The standard loan period is 120 days. The exceptions are media (7 days), children's books (21 days), and reserve materials (loan period specific to item).

Renewals
Books and media can be renewed up to 3 times.

Number of Items Allowed: 50

Fines, Fees, and Library Privileges
Faculty/staff are not charged overdue fines. After 21 days overdue the item is assumed to be lost and the final overdue notice is sent. If the item is not returned prior to the billing statement, a non-refundable fee of $50.00 per item will be charged.

Borrowing privileges will be suspended if faculty/staff have 10 or more overdue items or $100.00 in unpaid charges.

Holds
If an item is checked out, a faculty/staff member may request a hold and be notified by email when the item is returned. Faculty/staff may request holds on a maximum of 10 items. Hold requests expire after 30 days. Once the requested item is returned, it will be held at the Circulation Desk for 7 days.

Recalls
Faculty who wish to place an item on reserve may recall any item that is checked out. Faculty/staff members who need an item that has been checked out by another patron may request the item if it is not due within 21 days.
