Circulation Module 6: Library Lending Policies

Student Circulation Policy

A Berea College student must present his or her valid Berea College ID card in order to check our or renew materials from Hutchins Library. This includes checking out study room keys, headphones, Mac keyboards, and other media equipment.

Loan Periods
The standard loan period for a student is 21 days. The exception is media items (7 days) and media equipment (typically 2 hours).

Renewals
Books can be renewed up to 3 times.

Number of Items Allowed: 25

Fines, Charges, and Library Privileges
Overdue fines begin the day after an item is due. The fine for videos is $1.00 per day per item. There are no fines for overdue books and other non-reserve items if returned. The fine for study room keys, headphones, and media equipment is $1.00 per hour. After 21 days overdue the item is assumed to be lost and the final overdue notice is sent. If the item is not returned prior to the billing statement, a non-refundable fee of $50.00 per item will be charged.

Borrowing privileges will be suspended if students have 10 or more overdue items or $100.00 in unpaid charges. Fines will be sent to the student account once the student has accrued $10 or more in unpaid fines or fees.

Holds
If an item is checked out, a student may request a hold and be notified by email when the item is returned. A student may request holds on a maximum of 5 items. Hold requests expire after 30 days. Once the requested item is returned, it will be held at the Circulation Desk for 7 days.

Recalls
A student may request a recall of any item that is not due within 21 days.
