The Appalachian Regional Commission compiles data, creates maps, and conducts research and evaluations on key economic, demographic, and quality of life factors that affect the current and future development prospects of the Appalachian Region. The following materials are available in the Southern Appalachian Archives, housed in the Special Collections & Archives department.
Data gathered 1931-1933 from 1,000 churches and missions in seventeen counties within six southern Appalachian states as part of a larger U.S. Department of Agriculture economic and social study.
