Mini-mag flashlights are strategically placed throughout Special Collections to assist employees in case of a power outage. However, the stacks are so dark that one can easily stumble into something trying to reach a flashlight. In the event of a power outage:
1) Do not leave the department! Stay calm, look for flashlights, and move towards the reception area. Staff members need to account for everyone, including anyone in the stacks.
2) If the lights go out while you are in the stacks, the best policy is to stay in one place and wait for a staff member to come with a flashlight and escort you out.
Usually power outages are relatively brief.
