Crowd-sourced Collaboration Ideas from ACA Audience
- Creating LibGuides with FacultyLibrarian Julie Burchfield from Lee University suggested collaborating with teaching faculty to create LibGuides tailored to their individual course sections as an alternative to the generic subject guide. This allows the guide to be more useful and to speak to the specific requirements for the assignments in that class. Linked here is an example of one such guide made by Julie. This guide also provides contact info for Julie if you have further questions.
- Personal Librarian ProgramHaley Fannin from UPike spoke about librarians collaborating with the First Year Experience program to provide every single first year student with a personal librarian. Doing so helps reduce library anxiety and breaks down stereotypes about libraries/librarians. - Collaborating with the Theatre Department
Tyler Kroon from UPike spoke of Allara Library's collaboration with the Theatre department to celebrate Banned Books Week. There was a theatrical performance of the banned title Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time at which librarians participated in a panel discussion about banned books and censorship. - Lattes in the Library
Diette Ward from Lee University told us about the Lattes in the Library program, where faculty and staff come talk to students about professional development in their field. This occurs in an intimate setting, on couches while enjoying coffee, rather than in a formal lecture. Diette's contact info is provided if you would like to replicate such a program in your library.
- Dungeons and Dragons
Amanda Peach from Berea College collaborated with a student Dungeon Master to provide outreach programming in the form of one-shot Dungeons and Dragons campaigns. This is one more way to demonstrate to students that this space belongs to them and reflects their interests. Feel free to contact Amanda with the info above if you have questions!
- Graphic Novel Talks
Amanda Peach from Berea College has collaborated with community members who are passionate about comics and graphic novels to offer a series of graphic novel talks. At a time when we do not have a budget to pay speaker honorariums, reaching out to local comic enthusiasts who are willing to share their love for free, for the pleasure of speaking to like-minded fans, is a fun way to highlight the library's graphic novel collection.
