Conversation concerning Brazilian books
While internationally famous, Paulo Coelho divide’s opinion within Brazil. His writing is received with ambivalence by the literary community despite selling over 300 million books. It can be argued that Paulo Coelho symbolises how the English-speaking world has ignored / dismissed Brazil’s greater literary contributions and traditions. However his work is celebrated popular culture, and The Alchemist is worth the read.
