Circulation Staff

Judy Gergen, User Services Specialist and Labor Supervisor for the Circulation Desk

Resources and Services in the Circulation Department

The bulk of what Circulation does is check things out to people. The following items can be checked out at the Circulation Desk:

  • Circulating books, DVDs, CDs, and VHS tapes : There are some items within the library that cannot be checked out, such as reference books, magazines, and items from Special Collections. All "Circulating" items, however, can be checked out at the Circulation Desk.

  • Course reserve materials : These are materials which have been placed on hold by faculty and which students can check out to use within the library. They are usually only available for 2 hours at a time.

  • Interlibrary loan materials : These are items which patrons have requested to borrow from other libaries because we do not own them ourselves. Patrons will receive an email when these arrive and then can pick them up at Circulation.

  • Keys to Study Rooms : One of our most popular services. Rooms are available for 2 hour intervals.

  • Ethernet cords: These are very handy when the wifi crashes.

  • Flashdrives (aka thumbdrives or jumpdrives): Students will need to borrow one if they wish to digitally scan documents at the printers and do not already have one with them.

  • Headphones: These can be checked out for 2 hours at a time.

Additional services provided by the Circulation Desk include:

  • Distribution of and signing of clearance cards: ALL students must pick one of these up from Circulation each spring and then have the Circulation staff sign it, attesting that the student does not owe the library money. Students who graduate in December will have to pick these up and have them signed in December instead.

  • Signing of clearance forms: Similar to the clearance card, these are forms that students who are dropping out of, or taking leave from, the college need to pick up from Lincoln Hall and then have signed by Circulation (as well as other departments on campus).
