Alivia West: BEREApedia Editor for spring 2023

Hi! My name is Alivia West. I'm a studio art major with a focus in drawing and painting graduating in May 2023. I'm hoping to pursue art in the future, as well as a career in museums/archives.

Helina Asrat: BEREAPedia Editor for 2016-2017

My name is Helina Asrat. I am from Ethiopia. I am hoping to double major in biology and chemistry or do a biochemistry concentration. I would like to pursue a career in health. I like answering the whys of everyday life, which is the reason writing for Bereapedia is a fun experience.

Abby (Loy) Houston: BEREAPedia Editor for 2015-2016

My name is Abby Houston and I graduated from Berea College with a bachelor’s degree in art history in May 2016. I’m originally from Winchester, KY and began working at Hutchins Library in the fall of 2014 before becoming the editor of BEREApedia in 2015. I discovered my zeal for researching in college so working as an editor of a homegrown database fostered that emotion and turned it into a skill. Currently, I live in Syracuse, NY where I’m working on my masters’ in both Library and Information Science and Art History.

Sona Apbasova: BEREAPedia Editor for 2014-2015

My name is Sona Apbasova. I am from Abadan-Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. I graduated from Berea College in May 2015 with majors in History, German language and Asian Studies. Upon graduation I was employed as a Teacher for six-year-old class by the Quality International School Ashgabat International School in my home country Turkmenistan. Beginning in the Fall of 2016, I will pursue a two-year Master's degree in International Relations at the Catholic University Eichstätt-Ingolstadt in Germany. My graduate studies and the living expenses will be sponsored by the CSLA and DAAD scholarships. I am excited for my new academic and professional journey!

My passions are learning foreign languages and  cultural studies. As a BEREApedia editor I discovered another passion: conducting academic research and sharing the newly researched knowledge with my community. My most pleasant memories and the best professional and academic experiences were at the Hutchins Library. I had the honour and pleasure working among the most caring and supportive staff on campus. Berea College and its people will always have a special place in my heart and memory.
