Six radio programs of traditional music produced for WMMT-FM Whitesburg, KY., by Suzanne Savell, Berea Sound Fellow.

Installment No. 3 - Ballads

Addie GrahamIn this program we'll hear from representatives of Appalachia's rich ballad tradition. The southern mountains have a great legacy of ballads, story songs with origins in the Old World and others made here in America. Of all forms of traditional mountain music, ballads probably the least commercial; they are at their best when families and communities nurture them and pass them on. Ballad singers on the program are Dellie Norton, Berzilla Wallin, Cas Wallin, Shelia Kay Adams, Jean Ritchie, Edna Ritchie Baker, Bradley Kincaid, and Buell and Philip Kazee,
