ENG 225-325: The Art of the Book: Home

This guide is based, in part, upon the excellent guide created and posted by Jae Jennifer Rossman of Yale University (see profile page).

Introduction

This guide provides an introduction to basic resources, at the library and on the web, to start research in the book arts, with an emphasis on the scholarly study of contemporary artists' books.  This guide also provides links to a limited number of "how-to" information resources.  A brief list of publishers and individual practitioners in book art is included.  We plan to expand this list over time.

This guide focuses on materials available in Hutchins Library or freely availble on the web.  For additional materials, especially texts, see WorldCat.

I want to extend special thanks to Jae Jennifer Rossman of Yale University for her permission to build this guide based upon her guide for Yale University.  Because of their excellence, I have left Ms. Rossman's three essays (The Term Artists' Books, Brief History of Artists' Books and Brief History of the Book Format) as part of this resource.

Guides to Book Arts

Many institutions create guides to specific subjects for use in their work with students, faculty and patrons.  Below are a few guides that are especially good for the topic of Book Arts and Artists' Books.  All links are freely available to all.
